A question for high schoolers or high school teachers?

In high school do you still have study hour, where you get a whole period to study or do homework?

No. But my school is on a “block” schedule (We have three 90 minute classes one day– called an A day, then three different 90 minute classes the next– your B day). So, if a person takes only 5 classes, they will have one period off every other day. That’s what I did last year (11th grade) and this year (12th grade). I use my free period to go home early and do homework. It’s SOOO nice!

By the way, this is in California.

In Grades 11 and 12 here, you can have a spare or more if you wish. It’s discouraged in Grade 10, but I managed to get one since I dropped a class a month into the semester and it was too late to join another class.

It’s not designated as a study or homework period, though. It’s basically just a do whatever you like time, as long as you’re in the designated areas or off the grounds. I usually use my spares to hang out with friends or go to get a cappuccino or something. I’ll do my homework if there’s nothing else to do, if I have a lot due relatively soon or if I have a test coming up.

Not everyone gets a spare, though, if they didn’t leave any open spaces in their schedules. You have to opt to take them.

It depends on your school system. I don’t know of any that still do, but I have heard that there are some. Many schools that have turned to block scheduling only have maybe 4 classes a day, and therefore there is no study period.

Yes. Well, at my school you do, only for grade 12 tho.

Every grade 12 is entitled to 1 “spare” period in the year, if they choose. If a student takes 6 or more University level courses, they can take 2 spares (1 in each semester).

This is in Ontario, Canada.

I do. We used to have a period that was called “SRT” (Student Resource Time) where you can work on homework or get help from another teacher. Sort of like a study hall.

No, Around 30, I think your eyes open . Things that used to seem so important just aren’t so much any more, and things that you couldn’t care less about before, suddenly become the most important things in life. My dad always said that the brain fairy comes and takes teenagers brains away at 15 and gives them back at 20. Happened to me. My daughter is 12, and I can see it happening really soon!!!

Some schools do and some don’t. Some have study hour for older students but not for freshmen.
