Start with the teacher guides for the math program at your school. They are usually very good and have lots of ideas. That will be your most important resource.

Talk to other teachers at your school. I expect they will be able to offer lots of suggestions and advice.

Children of this age need hands on activities. They need to be involved in their learning – doing things. Plan active involvement for them.

Do on line searches for specific topics and you will get many good sites. There are hundreds of sites with worksheets and so on. I am not a great fan of worksheets, but they have their place.

Ask more specific questions here and most likely you will get many good answers. Quite a few people here give very good answers on such topics.

Best of luck.

Make the lessons as fun as possible because little children lose interest very quickly.

Encorperate games and activities in your lessons with practical objects around the classroom.

send them on a “maths treasure hunt”

have fun!

good luck x

when i was in grade 1, we would be given a problem like 4 + 2, and then below that, a line of ladybugs, teddy bears, or whatever. we would have to colour in the number. (ex, 6 ladybugs)

There’s no such word as “maths”. Shouldn’t you have learned to teach elementary math as part of your methods courses? How did you ever obtain a teaching certificate or license?
