My class always enjoyed playing “Red Light, Green Light”. They would start at one side of the classroom or playground, and I would hold up a green light. They would start to run towards me, then I would hold up a yellow light. They would slow down, then back to green, red, etc.

I would also do “stop, drop and roll” with them. They were 4, so they loved the rolling (make sure you have room, or they will drop on eachother!)

I made “yuck” stickers (green with a yucky face on them) and stick them on items they shouldnt touch. They would search for them and when they found one, they would point and call me over (not touching them). This helped them with what is ok to play with, and what is not.

We used to recite this song when on walks “Stop, look and listen, before you cross the street. First use your eyes and ears, then use your feet”.

Put various situations into a hat, such as “Mandi is going to cross the street, what does she need to do in order to cross the street?” or “LeBron needs to walk to the bathroom but the floor is wet, should he walk through it or not, or what should he do?”. Split the kids into groups of five or six and let each group have a leader. Ask each leader to come to the front of the room and draw a “situation” out of the hat. Tell each leader that they must go back to their groups and explain the situation to their teammates. Then each student has two minutes to try to come up with an answer and write it on their paper. When the two minutes are up, each student will take a turn sharing their answer with their group. Each group should then pick two or three answers for the leader to share with the rest of the classroom. Then you could help discuss the answers and go over each situation and explain why each answer is appropriate and maybe add anything that may have been missed. Have fun!
