how i learned was u take make 2 loops (rabbit ears) and make a x with them then put 1 of the loops (ears) under the bottem part of the x and pull

You can have them practice on a special bear with laces or use a tying board which can be purchaced from educational source companies such as Lakeshore. Try Lakeshore.com. Everything you do with a young child, turn into a game. Make up a song around the show tying and make it simple yet fun!

they just need to learn to tie!
There’s a book called The Shoebox where a kid learns to a shoe using a cardboard box with laces.
The way I learned was with a sash or rope… you wrap it through something (my grandmother used a kitchen drawer handle) and let the kid learn by practicing tying on here. It’s easier because it’s bigger than the itty bitty shoe laces and they can see it and get the feel for it better. Once they’ve got that down they’ll be able to tie their shoes.

I always did the over, under, around, and through. If you say it enough it sticks in your head, like since I was five. However I have seen others just show the child how to make two loops and then tie the two loops as one overhand knot and that has worked well. Ok the over under around and through is you make the one loop take the other string and lay it over the two held strings, take it around the loop and then push it double through. (and then pull) Yeah!
