Can I still get into Graduation school with two F’s total in my 4-years of college?

I failed calculus last spring, and I’m re-taking it now and doing fine. I risk failing organic chemistry right now.. and I’m so upset about it. I really want to go to graduate school (Master’s of Science) for Biochemistry.

Any advice from non-perfectionists? =) j/k

If you retake the courses then the new grade will be calculated into your GPA however the original grade and attempt will be on your transcripts, just not calculated into your GPA.

With that said you should check with the grad schools that you are looking into. I know of one here in FL that does not accept grade forgiveness and takes the original grade received. Some schools will acknowledge the second attempt and some wont so you need to make sure you know if your intended school will.

I got into grad school with a failing grade from 7 years previous on my transcript. *However* it was completely unrelated to what I wanted to major in in grad school and I’d been getting straight A’s for 2 years before applying.

Do not fail the organic chemistry. Just don’t. That one is important. Get off the computer and go study. If you haven’t yet, make yourself some flash cards and do some practice problems.

You may have to retake those classes before a graduate school will consider you. I’d suggest contacting schools before you spend the money to apply. Discuss your situation and try to get a feeling for your chances of getting into the program. Another option is to start as a part time grad student. If you do well in 2 or 3 challenging courses it will help to prove you are suited to the program.

If you retake both classes and do reasonably well the second time around, you stand a chance. You won’t get into an elite school, but others would take you.

When you retake a course, they should use your new grade, and erase the old one. I can’t think of the name for the policy, but just about every school does it.

If you’re failing org chem, either drop it and retake it, or just fail it and retake it. Either way, your new grade will cancel out the old one.
