Why is college and your classes based on grades?

I don’t think that’s right. Classes/college should be based on actual intelligence..

Would any good colleges take a person with bad grades, yet is very smart, and would put their effort in 110%?

If you had to have open heart surgery, would you want a surgeon who was very intelligent but failed all his anatomy and surgery courses, or would you want one who was less intelligent but did extremely well in his medical training? Intelligence does not always equate with competency.

Imaka has a very good point. One more thing to consider, intelligence is something that is stable over a life time. And how would you measure that intelligence? IQ? Because if we used that, someone who was less intelligent would always get the same grades, and the person who was less intelligent would always get the same lower grades. Kind of defeats the purpose of studying doesn’t it?
