If the number begins or ends a sentence it should be typed out. Used within the structure of the sentence it is okay to use digits.

“Three days after departure we arrived in Sweden.”

“We were at sea for 3 days before we finally reached Sweden.”

i’m not positive but i think anything over the number 12 you can just use the actual numbers for. But anything less than that you have to actually type the word out.
