Thornton Middle School will adhere to all of the

guidelines set by the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in the

2005-2006 STUDENT DRESS AND GROOMING

GUIDELINES.

In addition Thornton Middle School will adhere to

the following specific guidelines:

1) SHORTS, SKIRTS, AND SKORTS

Shorts, skirts and skorts MUST be at least at

mid-thigh or longer (without pulling down).

Shorts may NOT be rolled up, unless cuffed

and sewn.

Boxer style shorts will not be allowed.

ALL athletic style shorts (with or without

pockets) will be prohibited. This includes all

jogging shorts, biker shorts, wind or soccer

shorts, netted basketball shorts, cut-offs, gym

shorts, etc.

Slits in skirts must adhere to the mid-thigh

rule.

2) SHIRTS

Girls’ shirts must be long enough to cover the

waistline and not reveal bare skin when the

arms are raised above the head. No midriffs,

“short shirts,” or transparent shirts may be

worn unless a longer shirt is worn

underneath.

Boys’ shirts must be buttoned. All shirts

must be appropriately sized for the

individual. Shirts must not be too tight as to

reveal undergarments. Shirts with

inappropriate words, pictures or messages

that depict violence or vulgarity, or with

musical groups or persons will not be

allowed.

Tank tops or muscle shirts will not be

allowed. This includes all types of “spaghetti”

strap blouses (i.e. no certain width).

Sleeveless blouses and dresses must not be

revealing of undergarments.

Pants must be fitted at the waist and in the

crotch and worn at the waist…not below.

3) PANTS

All undergarments for males and females

must not be visible. No relaxed or loose fit,

saggies, wide legs or baggies may be worn.

No “see-through” or “break-away” athletic

pants are allowed.

Flared or bell bottom pants may not extend

beyond the toe box of the shoe. The tip of the

shoe must be visible.

Pants must not be too tight so as to reveal

undergarments.

Pants must be of an appropriate length and

hemmed. Cut, cut-off, frayed, or torn hems,

stapled, pinned, or taped hems will not be

allowed.

Belts should be worn with those pants

designed to be worn with a belt. Belts,

however, should be of an appropriate length

and not oversized. Belts may not hang down

below the shirt hem and must be kept within

the belt loops.

4) JEWELRY

Pierced earrings are allowed. All other body

piercing is strictly prohibited.

5) SHOES

Students must wear appropriate shoes for

school. Shoes must not present a safety or

health hazard. Shoestrings must be tied and

of appropriate length.

6) GENERAL

Clothes should fit appropriately and must not

be oversized or too tight.

Drawing and writing on clothes is prohibited.

In the case of a difference of opinion in the

interpretation of the stated code, the

appropriate Assistant Principal or Principal

will make the final decision and parents will

be notified.
