what is the difference between BSW and MSW?
Favorite Answer
DA
It takes four years to earn a BSW. It is not a frequently offered degree. A bachelor’s degree in psychology is good preparation for most two-year MSW post-graduate programs. There are almost no jobs for BSWs. MSWs can go on to do continuing education for licensed social worker positions or can be hired for some social worker jobs immediately upon earning the degree.

I am a social work student who is in a graduate program at sfsu so I got curious about how BSW internship and MSW internship differ.
A Master’s degree is (usually) an additional 2 years beyond your Bachelor’s degree and is called a graduate degree. People with Master’s degrees make more money than those with just Bachelor’s degrees.
I didn’t do social work, but very similar undergrad and grad program internships. The major difference to me was the Bachelor’s internship was about 20 hours of volunteer hours for one 16 week class. So after everyone found a location to intern at, I was on location like 2 or 3 hours a week at a local social service agency.
The Master’s level internship was was 20 hours per PER WEEK for TWO entire semesters. Your school may be different, but some schools allow you to get paid for your Master’s internships…. mine did not. I also could not work at a paid job because of all with all the time I had to spend for my other classes.
