What is something my Relgion class can do, to do outside of the class room?

There is a guy who has his class collect paper and his class likes getting an award from the city for the work they have done. What can my kids do because they are asking for some sort of service project.

Could they arrange a food drive for a food bank or homeless shelter? How about working in a soup kitchen?

They could volunteer tutoring/reading/helping time in elementary classrooms…Teachers and kids need all the help they can get.

Regularly visit assisted living or retirement homes. If any of the kids have a special talent, like playing the piano, they could entertain. Some of the folks in places like this don’t receive many visitors – and it doesn’t have to be one on one, it can be a group thing.

Similarly, winter is coming soon… How many elderly, disabled or disadvantaged people in your town could use some help with end of season yard work? Paint? Plastic on windows or porches?

Adopt part of a highway or a specific road in your community to keep clean. Depending on your area, there may be a place you can adopt as a beautification project – clean it up, plant flowers, trees etc…

Hold regular “garage” sales from collected/donated items and give the money back to your community.

Sponsor a book drive and donate to your local library – or if it’s a huge library, donate to elementary schools or your local community action agency.

Do canned foods and staples drives – donate to food banks.

Start collecting new toys, books, clothes for needy families at Christmas.

Whatever you decide, good luck and have fun. Remind your students that volunteering isn’t about looking good on your resume but rather the intrinsic reward. You get back what you put out there. 🙂
