Nope… pledging allegience to the flag has nothing whatsoever to do with stating any kind of “devotion” to god.

It’s saying that you’re swearing loyalty to the flag & the nation it represents – the ENTIRE nation, not just those who believe in god or agree with the same political / social issues that you do.

Just look at the words to the pledge and follow along…

(Incidently – it wasn’t until the era of rampant McCarthy-ism when the country was going ape-sh*t and seeing communist behind everything that the words “under God” were ADDED to the original pledge … this has been the subject of much debate over recent years as many people felt that citing “god” changed the pledge into the equivalent of a prayer – so some people feel that it should be removed.)

I assume you mean the flag of the United States of America.

For me, when I say the pledge of allegiance, it means that I respect the hard-fought freedoms I enjoy and will do everything I can to protect and defend those freedoms – not just for me, but all Americans.

You don’t know what you have until its gone.

If you blow off your obligations to be a good citizen, you’ll eventually let the government take away all your rights…and then where will you be?

You are pledging allegiance to the flag, and the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. So you are pledging your allegiance to the flag, the country, and what the country stands for.

I assume you are referring to the Pledge of Allegiance, where you are swearing fealty to the flag, the nation, and the precepts that the nation stands for.
