What are the benefits we get by joining “Toastmasters Club”?
Favorite Answer
“To provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn will foster self-confidence and personal growth.”
Allow me to break this down. The first benefit one can expect from Toastmasters is the “mutually supportive and positive learning environment.” Toastmasters clubs are what is often referred to in the corporate world as a “safe environment.” In other words, members are able to make mistakes and learn without fear of ridicule or retribution. Members are given balanced feedback on nearly everything that is done within the course of a club meeting, enabling their personal development.
Communication skills are developed through the Communication Education track where you first learn the basics of how to speak well in public, and then advance to higher level projects. These projects can be career related or just fun.
Leadership skills are developed through the Leadership Education track. Through this program, members learn basics of leadership and move through a series of more progressive and challenging projects, culminated by a High Performance Leadership Project. Again, much of this can be specific to Toastmasters or adapted for career development or even volunteer services in the community.
As these skills grow through learning and practice, a member’s self-confidence develops as well. The self-confidence comes from the continued development and practice of “transferable skills.” These are skills you can use in the work place, at home, in the community, virtually anywhere you wish to exert influence to accomplish something.
In the March 2006 Toastmasters magazine, and article was published citing results of a study. This study revealed that individuals willing to develop and leverage communication skills in the workplace, made between 5% and 25% more than their peers and had greater opportunity for advancement, travel and exposure. The same could be said in the community, with the exception of pay.
In summary, the benefits of joining a Toastmasters Club are largely up to the individual and their reason for joining. However, the benefits are also as real, transferable and concrete as you choose. The key is to Make The Link between your Toastmasters activity and how it can translate to other aspects of your life.

It’s claimed that by joining Toastmasters, you’ll be exposed to a broad range of communication resources so you’ll become a dynamic public speaker and motivator.
The grey area, however, is HOW you’ll use your newfound skills: as a legit public speaker or a savvy con artist.
Interesting to note, and not mentioned by “Bad Idea”, that Toastmasters have prison inmates within the ranks of their membership. Interesting fact, isn’t it?????
I guess it all depends on the various individuals in the particular branch that you attend. Some are very helpful in suggesting modifications that you could make in your speeches, etc.
But basically all they do is criticise everything you say.
