Should I study 12 hours a day?

I’m a student. I can do it but do you think there will be any negative effects like on health?

Yeah it has alot of health problems. Your body needs at least 8 hours of uninterupted sleep a night. Sleep deprivation also causes much stress and, again, stress weakens our immune system – a double whammy. And both of these things, sleep deprivation and stress, can upset your mental processes. You may suffer from confusion, memory loss, irritability or emotional highs and lows.. I know study means alot to you but you come first.. not study. Give yourself a break k? 😉

Honestly, I think you would be wasting your time. The most effective studying really doesn’t take a long time. First, review or read the chapters you will be discussing in class before the class. This will help you better understand the lectures / demonstrations and participate in class discussion. Also if you have any questions about the material you can ask the instructor to explain while the class is learning about the material. Following class (within 24-48 hrs) review your notes. While the material is still fresh review your notes add information if you just jotted down key words or add examples etc. By reviewing material a little every day (maybe as little as 15-30 minutes) you will have a better understanding of the material. When a test comes up you will have a good base knowledge and will only need to review. When studying for tests use techniques such as flashcards to remember keywords or phrases this allows you to remove terms you know well and focus on others. Also make examples and other connections for the material it will make it easier to store and retireve from memory. As for your other question about negative effects on health, yes. By obsessing and studying for 12 hours you would have increased stress and anxiety. It would also cut into your sleeping time. Sleep deprivation actually counteracts learning. Good luck.

It’s not the best plan but if you’ve got to, you’ve got to. Assuming you have some deadline or something, just make sure you take a lot of breaks, don’t overdo the caffeine or you won’t absorb anything and sleep when you need to sleep. It might also help to have someone test you or study with another person for a few of those hours for variety’s sake. Similarly vary your surroundings: if it’s nice weather sit outside somewhere quiet like the park or switch between your house and the library. If you just plod on for 12 hour stints, day after day, without being more imaginative in your approach then your mind is more likely to wander from the task at hand.

No, because it could sometimes be unhealthy because your not being active and you spend less time with your family or room mate. Maybe you should cut that down to 2 hours or less. If you can’t get it done between then, you could make up a game to help you study faster like if you have a basketball hoop every time you got a question right you would shoot a goal and every time you got a goal you would either add 1 2 or 3 points depending on how far away you were from the goal.

How many days a week? Does that mean you start at seven and stop at seven? or that you start at 6 to “make up for” time spent at meals? As a student, my most demanding semester required 70 hours per week. It was possible only because supportive family took care of ALL my personal needs, even fueling my car and balancing my checkbook. Will you be eating right, exercising, getting enough rest and sleep, and so on? If yes, then it shouldn’t actually HARM you if it’s just for a single semester. But don’t make a way of life out of this — people need time to socialize, to goof off, to persue non-school interests, and to just plain do nothing.

That seems excessive. You’ll burn out quickly or just study less efficiently. I would just make sure you go to all the lectures with a good nights sleep. When you do study, do it in a quiet place. Study the concepts so you have a broad understanding, don’t waste time memorizing facts unless absolutely necessary.

besides, why would u want to study for 12 hours?? I mean, seriously, i can’t even stand reading a book for 15 minutes. u must be real smart

you need to rest your mind in between study and after refresh, you will find you can absorb easier. Study 12 hours a day is too stressful and your life is not merely study, its a lot more.
