Should I move out of state during my senior year in high school?

I am currently a senior in high school in California and my family has decided to move to Wisconsin all of a sudden. My parents want me to go but I say, finish off my senior year first while they move. I do not want to go for I am in my senior year and do have family here in my city that I can stay with. Are the requirements for college different from here in California and Wisconsin and is it recommended that I go or stay since it is my senior year?

It might make a difference for college. Doesn’t CAL give their HS grads free instate tuition at state schools? I know NM does, but WI does NOT. Check that out, as that can be HUGE. WISC is a much smaller state with more rural sensibilities (hunting) which has 13 state universities, with UW-Madison one of the best schools in the country. Their other schools are medium-sized schools where you can obtain a good education, but 2nd and 3rd tier. WI gives reduced tuition to instate residents and has reciprocal agreements with MN. College Admission standards for the best schools, Berkley, Madison, will be very similar as they recruit nationally.

It’s very difficult moving in your senior year, particularly as you’re almost 1/2 of the way through the school year. It can be done and can be a growth process, and prepare you for going off to college, but it can be a lonely, difficult time, moving then. You need to be outging, gregarious and willling to make the first move to make friends. Are you deeply involved at your school? Are you in sports, clubs, student leadership? Are you likely to get some awards? If yes, I’d say Stay, but if NO, then the move should make little difference in your prospects.

Best of luck making this difficult decision!

You’re wise to be careful about this. Some school systems will not accept an eighteen-year-old, so you might move and discover that you cannot get back into school. Your only option at that point would be a GED. Before moving, do a little research to find out about the policies of the school system in Texas where you will be moving. You might need to call and talk to someone in the school district offices. This is one of those situations where it is “better to be safe than sorry.” Once you have quit school and cannot get back in, many doors for a brighter future will be closed to you.

Yeah, you should stay in California and finnish up high school. Then you can get in-state tuition, if you were to go to Wisconsin, you may end up paying more. But then again if your parents are paying for your college education then you can move with them because then it doesn’t matter.

I think it’s best for you to stay where you are. Every state has a certain standard of education. If you move, you’ll probably lose alot of credit you earned in high school when you move to wisconsin and believe me you don’t want to have to repeat the same grade again.

honestly i think you should stay for your last senior yr. i mean it would be really hard to make new friends for just a yr. the college requirements there are going to be the same so if anything stay for your senior yr and go to college in Wisconsin.

if you have the choice to stay and the people to stay with i definitely recommend that you stay. i dont want to scare you but you dont want to ruin your last bit of your senior year by risking not finding friends and not having fun. i dont know. i’d stay. i moved to a different school my sophomore year and that was bad enough. granted i moved from germany to the US. sorry i cant help you with the wisconsin/cali requirements.

if you stay in California AND you want to go to college in CA, your college fees will be in-state (lower than if you more to Minnesota)
