my english teacher?

today when i arrived to my second period english class i noticedd before walking in that we were going to have a sub. i thought that was kind of strange because we havent had a sub for that class ever.

as i walked in i also noticed that my english teacher was there and was getting ready to leave. her eyes were red, and puffed, like she had been crying and on the board it said that her dad was in a coma and will probably die in a couple of hours, so she needed to get to england, where her father lives (shes english as well) and then the phone rang, it was the people who sell airplane tickets and say it would cost 700 dollars to get to england as soon as possible, my friend, heard her the the ticket people that she couldnt afford that kind of money. so i guess she went home and me and my friend (the one that heard the phone conversation) were like hey why dont we raise money for her so she can go, we come up with the idea of donations and we were like what teacher would have boxes?

I really admire your feelings for your English teacher (you should have paid more attention in class though!).

A petition CAN help get a school policy changed … but first I’d respectively ask the principal for a copy of the policy that says you can’t raise money for employees! For one, that’s kind of odd; for two, you’d need it for your petition.

Second, you do not need to have just registered voters sign it — you can have everyone sign it. But, you should carry two … one for the voters and one for everyone else. Also, you will need to have your petition written MUCH BETTER than what you posted here. Have another teacher help you if necessary.

Now, take the petition to the school board and ask to be put on their meeting agenda. You’ll probably have to call the district office a few weeks before the meeting.

This will take awhile, but you may get something done!

In the meantime, you can probably leave your boxes in places around town where the students/faculty will see them, but not on school property.

Good luck!

First of all you can’t change a school policy through signatures, it doesn’t work that way (assuming you’re in a public school). The decision to change that rule would be the school board or other governing body. Secondly if you really are going to collect signatures in favor of changing this rule you have to do it professionally, people must be registered voters (meaning you and your friends don’t count) and you must have some contact information on the petition so all the signatures can be verified. The best way to change this though is by talking to school board members who are the ones with the say in changing the rules.

Also you don’t have a very good English teacher “For future and hopefully a present references, we are asking potation to be able to contribute to a non profit causes or organizations for school employees in need.” Yes, you should spend some time with her outside school.

You definitely have a solid position here, and something worth fighting for…however it is unfortunate that you are going about it in a way that will not yield the desired results. You would have to appeal to the school board, because it is very likely that is not just a policy for your school…but for the whole district. Ask your parents to help you pursue this if you really believe it is worth fighting for. I hope that you are successful.

I can’t really help you with the paragraph part but I just wanted to say can’t you just raise the money out of school instead? Or near your school so then technically your not in the school grounds so you won’t be breaking any rules?
