Cornell won’t discriminate against you based on the fact that you are Jewish. They have a lot of Jewish students on campus.

I don’t know of any reputable college in the US that discriminates against anyone in admissions based on religion.

You can write “temple” if you want, but people will think you mean “synagogue”. Don’t write church, unless that’s what you actually call your synagogue. Just write what it is. You’ll be fine.

If you did volunteer time at a specific place, you need to name that place, not be specific. I doubt you’d be discriminated against for it. I’ve been in my job in less than a year and each year nearly 100 candidates are interviewed for a residency position in my department. Nearly all of them listed volunteer time with whatever their religious affiliation is. And I think right now, my residents represent quite the variety.

You should definitely put your volunteer experience on there. In my experience, colleges are looking for well-rounded applicants who will contribute to their campus, and volunteer work is a good indicator of that.

Not to be snarky, but more important is to make sure that your application is perfect in terms of spelling and grammar. If you have a bunch of typos, it won’t matter if you’re Mother Theresa.
