I am perfectly happy living in N. America in this time frame. Both of those would be a rough life. Rotten living conditions. No personal rights or freedoms. You would never know who was going to kill you, or when the next famine or plague would hit. You wouldn’t have any freedom to think as you wished or do what you wanted. Society would shove a crummy existence down your throat.
