I’m so close to failing! Please help me?

I’m a freshman and I’m in an honors english class. My teacher gives us tons of hard work to do every night. What makes it worse is that he even said one time, “I know I give you to much work and you are all going to get F’s alot, but I went through the same thing and now you have to.” We have 3 hours of homework in that class each night. I know English classes have alot of homework, but even an honors freshman class shouldn’t have THAT much. On most of the assignments I don’t even understand what I’m suppose to be doing. He encourages us emailing him if we need help so I have done so on multiple occasions, but he never answers. I’m afraid that I’m going to fail this class and have to make up the credit! I’m in desperate need of help! Usually I’m good at English, but this year everything is just going over my head. PLEASE HELP ME!

Tell your parents about it. Also go to your counselor. No sense wasting your GPA or future college plans because this teacher is on an ego trip! Save yourself and quickly!

Unfortunately, I don’t know of a blanket answer to help you. What type of work do you have to do? Papers, just readings, responses, discussion groups? I’ve had some rough, very demanding classes as well and one thing I found that helped was making a friend or two in the class and doing the work together. Strength in numbers, 2 heads are better than 1, etc. Having someone to bounce ideas off of and such is an excellent tool. GOOD LUCK!

Ask your parents to speak with your guidance counselor. Insist on being removed from this class. Colleges, to be honest, don’t give a crap if you were in Honors English. They’d rather see a 95 in regular English… no one wants to see a 75 in Honors English. Don’t feel as if you’re too stupid, because you’re not. You have a douche bag for a teacher, and you know on the inside that you’d get better grades in a regular class. Take advantage of an easier class and ace it!

that’s how freshmen year is… I’m in IB and we always have at least 2 hours a night… usually more… suck it up! freshmen year is hard, but you’ll get over it and you’ll get used to it. ask your friends for help and because it is English you should be able to ask your parents for help maybe depending… are they logs and stuff? what is so hard? relax and just do it, don’t put off the work, either do it first and if your teacher isn’t answering your emails go in early and stay after school for help if you really need it

EDIT: if it’s really too much for you, at the end of the six weeks, drop down a level

i know how that feels but if u really find it too hard you can try to swich to a different teacher or english class

but if u cant then theres no way to escape it unless u just try your best and think of it as something you have to get done rather then something as a chore. If u dont understand what you are doing then you should read the book and try to understand it.

woah, english honors freshman year! geez, I have it right now and i’m a junior! As much as I hate to say it, if you think this class is going to completely overwhelm you, you should transfer out. 3 hours of homework and not learning anything is not worth staying in that class.

just relax and see if you can stay after school for tutering so that you can get help from your teacher without the hassle and if that doesnt work start a study group with some of the kids on your class where you get together after school and work together on the homework and get it done all i can say is do what you can and try to get it done

Maybe you and other class members who are having the same problems should make an appointment and have a talk with your lecturer concerning the level of assignments.See where he is coming from.Find out is it apart of the course requirement or just his preference.Students should not just accept everything.

Just because your teacher experienced the tons of work doesnt mean you have to. Your teacher is being a loser. Talk to your parents about this.
