what major is best for college students hoping to teach?

I want to teach 1st and 2nd grade and then after a while maybe High School, Special Education and Dance Team… I am currently majoring in Child Development… The school I will transfer to (CSUCI aka CSUChannel Islands, here in California) offers both Early Childhood Studies and Liberal Studies for students going into teaching… Some say I should stick with Child development, and some say Liberal Studies. I don’t know which one is better for me. Even though I have done my research, I still can’t figure this out. Any help here?

And also, I would like to know, does anyone know this answer… Can you transfer before you get 60 units and continue your education at a four year college or is it required to get 60 units and sometimes plus to transfer? No one seems to know this… :o) Thanks a ton!

At my college, you have to have so many classes in order to teach that it is virtually impossible to squeeze in special ed or high school. You should really talk to your advisor. I would probably concentrate on early education if you really want to teach 1st or 2nd grade. If you have time later, you can pick up the other classes needed for the other credits. I think that you can transfer before 60 hours, but it would depend upon the school. Before I could transfer my credits, I had to take a rising junior test. It was mandatory before transferring to a 4 year college. So, you see, it depends upon your school.

You can transfer whenever you want. Some school put a limit that you need over 30 and some 15. You just have to contact the school and ask.

My friend is doing elementary education. He will be certified to teach from kindergarden through 8th grade, but now they are saying up to 12th grade even.

Since the first goal that you have is to teach first and second grade I would suggest that you major in early Childhood Development.

Ask your transfer question to the school or schools that you want to transfer into. They should know the answer since they make the decision.
