I’ll be skipping 10th grade english to 11th, I’m afraid i’ll be picked on?

Hello i’m 15 years old, and I excell in English. I’m very shy, and my problem is… I’m afraid the kids will tease me for being in a Juniors class. What if they ask why I’m there? I don’t know what to say without looking big headed. I want to be in 11th grade English, but I’m considering maybe 10th is the best idea…social wise? What would you do? Thanks guys, this means a lot to me.

I think it is great that you excel in english, I would not worry about being picked on. Some kids are jerks regardless of what grade you are in. All the rest of your classes are in 10th, now if you were 12 years old in an 11th grade class that would be bad socially, but your not, you are 15 and will be in a class with 16 year olds, there really isn’t that big a social gap. If they ask you why you are there, just tell them, doubt they will ask or care, some may even admire you, just don’t get caught up in the games and continue to do well and you will be fine

Just tell them what happened, It’s tough to pick on someone for being good at something. I got on varsity soccer when i was in 7th grade, anytime anyone pointed out that i was young, I’d just challenge them to 1 on 1.

All of the social drama ends with high school. I think it was pretty much done with around junior year anyways.

Actually, I had the same problem, but I was a year ahead in math. And yeah, there will be a few idiots in your class who tease you, but hopefully most of your class will be pretty nice people (like mine) that you can become friends with. If they ask why you are there, you can just say that you wanted to challenge yourself. I would totally go with it. Good luck.

It depends on how big your school is. At my high school, I doubt anyone really would have paid that much attention to who was in the class. I graduated highschool at 17. No one ever realized I was 1-2 years younger than them. Just don’t broadcast that information!

They probably won’t pick on you.. they’ll probably be really nice and try and cheat off of you.

However if they’re that dumb and pick on you, know that you’re obviously the better man in that situation and that they are just jealous because they’re still stuck in high school, and you’re breezing by with a year less than them.

Just be proud that you’re skipping a grade in English. It wouldn’t make since if people picked on you because you’re smart! However if they do pick on you, just ignore them.

If you want to fit in you should stay with your age group, but you know I wouldn’t worry what the older kids would think. Once you’re in a job with them it won’t matter if they’re a year older or not.
