How do you motivate yourself to study in college?

I find it hard for me to concentrate and the subjects that I don’t like in college. I’m majoring in Electronic Engineering at ITT-Tech. When it comes to math and electronics courses, I’m always happy to study those. But when it comes to thing like economics and other general education courses. I find it hard to study because I don’t lie them. I think I failed economics this quater. How do you motivate yourself to study?

Take a look at your college bill. I’m an environmental engineer at the University of Michigan and the burden on my family is enough motivation for me to study. But I’d recommend that you just look at your other classes from a more analytical standpoint so they relate more to your personal enjoyment rather than viewing them as foreign and unnecessary- thats never made it easy to pass. If you truly want to learn, than you’ll find a way to focus, and thats really the only advice that anyone can give.

HAHAHAHA! advantageous… ok, numbers a million and a pair of are with regards to the comparable and it works for you while you’re smart adequate to get issues completed on the final minute (that is my case), whether provided that it sluggish is constrained reason you left it run without doing something hazard is you’re gonna could desire to artwork extra suitable. style 3 sounds extremely sturdy however the question now’s nevertheless how do you come across that motivation. I supply you 2 thoughts: the useful way is to think of on what you’re gonna accomplish and a few great reward of it, something like this: in case you be taught and get sturdy grades your possibilities to get a scholarship are bigger then you definately bypass to varsity and bicame a huge shot and you wind up using a 6 determine vehicle. The unfavourable way artwork merely the oppsite: merely think of of the failure you’re gonna grew to develop into as quickly as you get kick out of faculty and how extremely everyone who concept you have been so cool now dont merely walks faraway from you yet remark approximately how dumb you’re and how 5 years from now you will finally end up on the action picture value ticket concesion waiting to comb the carpets.

You could try using operant conditioning (particularly positive reinforcement) to condition yourself to study. It’s being used to teach gymnasts, dancers, pilots, and even animals.

First, set up a study routine that you’re going to follow, like a certain ritual that surrounds studying. Break it into small portions (e.g. walking to your desk, then taking out your notebook and book, then reading a few pages, then taking a note on what you read, and so on).

Now, what you want to do is increase the frequency of each of those behaviors that make up “studying”, right? So, rather than just sitting down and studying, figure out a way to reward yourself each step of the way.

Do you love chocolate? Ritz crackers? A certain musician? Even just smiling and telling yourself you did a good job can work, oddly enough! After you accomplish each step in your studying “ritual”, give yourself a small dose of whatever your reinforcer is – a Hershey’s kiss, a cracker, a Metallica song, an “atta boy!” – and continue to the next step. Each time you accomplish a step, you get a prize. Start small and reward yourself maybe for each note you take from the book, or each question you get right when you study. Soon, you’ll find that you won’t need to reward yourself constantly to keep up the good work, and you can drop to giving yourself a prize for every few steps, or a big prize at the end.

Use a variety of reinforcers (prizes) to keep yourself from getting bored. If you don’t want to eat when you’re studying, grab a bunch of small change (pennies, dimes, nickels) and a jar. Every time you do something right in your studying, put a coin in the jar. Each one represents a prize you can get later (maybe an M&M, or the number of minutes you’ll set aside to play x-box or read for fun).

If you mess up when you study, don’t guilt trip yourself or get mad…just try again. Reward the good, ignore the bad.

Take it as a challenge! Of course you are going to do great in the subjects you like, but are you really smart enough that you’ll do good even in things that don’t necessarily appeal to you??

I find it ridiculously depressing not to be able to succeed at something only because it’s not interesting enough… especially if it keeps from getting what I want!!

I know what you mean- I took a quantitative business analysis course last year and wanted to kill myself. The way I motivated myself was that I knew if i actually completed the course I would be very proud of myself in the end, and so would my family. It may seem like a long time, but really, the classes are short and you can overcome it. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Good luck.

Just keep reminding yourself how much all this costs. Break down the tuition and expenses to $$$/per hour. When you see how much money you are spending, then you will want to protect your investment and make sure you create a strong academic record that will lead you to a lucrative and fulfilling career.

The first thing your future employer will look at is your GPA. That could be the difference between a starting salary of $45,000 for a low GPA to $60,000 for a high GPA. Or, the difference in how long it takes to find a job period. Money motivates!!!

think of it this way… you can’t graduate until you finish your required courses. The more semesters you spend at your college, the more you’ll be in debt, and slower it will take for you to either start a career or go to grad school.

Just think “If i get past this subject, that’s one last thing off my list”
