The answer is very simple they read the classics.Education is now regarded as a stepping stone to a career but they enjoyed education for the attainment of knowledge and then applied it to furthering their careers.We have put the cart before the horse.

It is true that we are technologically advance than our ancestors but science is not all about technology. In past the astronomer, palm readers, psychics had great abilities. They worked on a spiritual level and could heal a person using their mind. The Buddha himself said “as u think, so you are”. That means that if we think that we are not hungry we will not feel hunger , and great sages could sit and meditate in one place for days and never felt hunger or thirst. They could heal themselves using the power of the brain. So you can see that science nowdays is full of all sorts of gadgets but the scientific knowlegde of the past was much more advanced.

In Hindu religion (1 billion followers) and philosophy it is believe that the current age is the age of Kali – age of ignorance and passion. In this age people will be more interested in these things –

1) Sexual enjoyment and prostitution

2) Meat eating and torturing animals

3) Intoxication using drugs and alcohol

4) search for gold

All these things are happening currently and im guilty of doing the third one too.

It says this age of kali began about 5000 years ago and it will last for quite a while before the age of virtue comes.

so yes you are right the general population is getting stupid , this whole world is ****** up.

but at last the final message is that no matter what the general population is doing we can get out of this materialistic world and go to the anti-material world – spiritual world if we pray to the GOD – jesus/krishna/allah/jehovah

I have a hard time believing that is true. My kids have algebra in 3rd grade and my 5th grader is taking trigonometry and has to read 14 novels through this school year. They have to pass sat and asset tests before they can move up a grade. They have way more educational opportunities than I ever had and are learning more in elementary school than I, my brother and my husband were ever taught in high school. I was beaten by my elementary school teachers with a yard stick because I was left handed and was forced to use my right hand if you think that’s bad we learned sex ed from mr harvey and ms harris getten it on in the class rooms! In my town and surrounding cities there are private schools going up faster than there are students to put in them and don’t even get me started on colleges because I spent 4 years in one and make three times as much as a blue coller worker and Im proud of it too.
