Education laws in some European places- women and veils?

I agree with the need for seperation of church and state. BUT… not allowing Muslim women to wear headscarves in public schools goes waaay too far. Wearing head scarves for these girls/women is a way of life in that they they HAVE to do it- in their belief, they will go to hell if they don’t ( and everyone is entitled to their own beliefs). It’s not just the matter of prayers at school or not wearing a cross necklace or something. Because one can postpone a prayer until afterschool, and can put a necklace on later, and not feel like a sinner going to hell. In islam, for those who take it seriously and personally, a person cannot go outside to a public arena uncovered. These edu laws are forcing girls to either throw away their beliefs to get education they are entiteled to, or not be educated at all and be allowed to practice. This is NO better than forcing ALL women to wear scarves. SAME THING,2 sides of the same extreme. let just shove pork down a jewish persons throat!?

Ur opinion

Hello sister,

I’m Muslim and not sure of what u r but I believe that religious freedom should be applied to education laws in France as well as other countries. You can’t force a christian or Jewish female to ware the Hijab in most Muslim countries.

Education is a Human Right and what the UNESCO states always is “Education for all” and I believe when they created this statement they indicated all the Human Rights starting from religious beliefs and ending with personal freedom.

Human Rights = Peace

Those who do not give human beings their rights are making a call-out for a non peaceful planet.

Firstly I’d like to support the response given by Wolfie concerning Islamaphobia and the issues we should be focussed upon. Secondly the number of supposed questions concerning Islam posted on this site demonstrates ignorance, intolerence and isolationism. Are these really the values we in England want to be known for? We must move away from scape-goat politics. Benefit claimants, EU migrant workers, University students and Muslims are not the cause of our financial and unemployment problems. The banks multinational big business and the fact that the “industrial revolution” advantage the developed world (USA, Europe, Japan etc) had that allowed us to generate the wealth that gave us our standard of living has dissppeared. China, India and Russia are now the ermerging economic power houses of the world. We must therefore develop our trade with these countries, look at the technology and services they will need and make sure we are well placed to offer them. We need to stop looking to blame someone for our woes and focus on the issues Wolfie mentioned and recognise that we: i) have an education system that is not delivering a workforce with the skills and knowledge we need to compete globally, ii) live in a capitalist free market world with global trade and understand that big business will move jobs to those countires that have a) a workforce with the skills b) costs are lower (not just salaries but also land, utilities and taxation) c) productivity is higher d) access to target markets is easier. We have Japanese and American car manufacturers based in the UK for all these reasons.

Tough. Have them wear sensible garb, not some ridiculous Halloween style costume from the 7th Century, in which they’ll burn up in the summer all because of adherence to some stupid ancient code.
