Does being Spanish (from Spain) count as being Hispanic/Latino?

I need to know whether or not I can check off Hispanic/Latino when I am applying to college, it is likely to make a big difference.

Technically, based on the history of that term, yes, you can. It first referred to Spain and Portugal long before anyone in S/C America.

Also – I don’t believe “european” is an option on most forms asking for ethnicity.

Well my friend from Spain really doesn’t like being called Hispanic or Latino. Most of the Spanish ppl I know prefer to be called European, cuz they do live in Europe. So I’m pretty sure that people from Spain are called European. Good luck with college!

No… Spain is a European country, so the people there aren’t “Latino” or “Hispanic.” Spanish people are Europeans.
