Children’s book?? HELP. Teachers?Anyone??

Here is a basic description:

I remember a special story about a little girl who bought a magic pencil that made everything she drew with it come to life. I believe I remember something in there about a magic toad/frog that tells her about the pencil in the first place.

Anyone have an idea what this might be?

It would help to know how long ago you read it (approximately), and whether it was a picture book or children’s novel. It sounds like it could be a Ruth Chew book (“Mostly Magic”?), or maybe “Magic in the Alley” by Mary Calhoun, but here are some other possibilities I found in WorldCat:

Mice make trouble / Becky Bloom (2000): When Henry uses his sister’s magic colored pencils to draw six mice and a hedgehog, they all come to life and make a heap of trouble.

The good-luck pencil / Diane Stanley (1986): A magic pencil which Mary Ann discovers accidentally brings her more good luck than she can handle.

The long, green pencil / Sara Werner (1990): Lizzie uses a magic pencil to rewrite the lives of her parents but finds that she misses the way they were.

There’s also an older children’s novel called “Marianne Dreams” by Catherine Storr, about a little girl who’s sick in bed and draws things that come to life. There’s something in it about menacing rocks…
