AP Statistics frowned upon?

I’ve heard that AP Statistics is easier. Does that technically mean that colleges would look down on a college applicant if he/she chooses to take that class instead of AP Calculus? I’m currently a junior and taking Math Analysis or Pre-Calculus, and I’m wondering what I should take senior year.

I’m thinking of heading into a career of science research, and I know that to do graphs and results and such that is relevant to AP Statistics, but what about AP Cal? What does the class entail that I might need later in the future?

Forget what the colleges think. I think you will benefit more from taking AP calculus in high school and then taking stats in college. The stats classes that are calculus based are more informative anyways.

I suggest that the best thing for you is to take calculus now, retake it in college to help with the transition and take the college level stats course. If you have the time take both AP classes, that will be very good too.

good luck!

AP Calc fo sho!!! AP Stats can always be taken later in college. They wont look down on it…but AP Calc will help get you prepped to get into a good college math course which you reeeally want and lots of science class placement depends on math placement so you really want to place well to get on track. Youll learn a lot of graphs and results tools in AP Calc anyways. Believe me…itll be a lil harder but its sooo worth it.

Calculus is essential to achieving mathematical numeracy (literacy) and you should get into it as soon as you can so that you start thinking in calculus.

Stats is easier, and is very subject-specific. Wait until college before you do stats. As a college freshman in the sciences, you’ll be immersed in calculus immediately and you’ll be expected to have the tools.

Well you are currently in pre-calc, and want to go into science, so i would take AP calc. You can take AP stats in addition, but definitely take AP calc.
