Of course this depends on a lot of factors, the most important of which are where your interests lie and where your potential is the greatest. However, all things being equal I would say that a certification in interior design would be a better complement to a general contractor’s business line than a degree in architecture. Presuming that you have your own business or plan on starting one, this would give you a greater variety of offered skills that might be marketed to a similar group of customers to those you already have. Basically, however, it comes down to this (overly simplistic diagram).

The process is sorta like this:

architecture –> general contractor –> interior design

which means you can do either:

[architecture –> general contractor] –> interior design

or:

architecture –> [general contractor –> interior design]

Upto you, of course. Good luck.

Architecture, which could also include a course package in interior design.

An architect can do interior design, even to the point of designing the furniture and what-not, but an interior designer can’t go the other way.

Also get your LEEDs AP certification and try to design structures with a net-zero energy usage level. It can be done and has been done.

you can do the first 2 years. but in order to be contracted/eligible for a commission you can ONLY get a degree in certain fields. the ROTC office will tell you what those fields are. I highly doubt the one you want is eligible. Navy wants High tech degrees like Engineering and computer science. at the very least you will require higher maths like calc and calc based physics.
