Write the following number correct to a) 2 d.p. b) s.f. ?
I’m in 9th grade Honors Algebra. Can anyone tell me what s.f. stands for? I’m afraid I’ve forgotten -.-
And, can you do an example? One of the numbers is 0.5074

Tell the teacher they are setting a poor example by using abbreviations without defining them.
My GUESS
a) 2 decimal points
b) signficant figures
0.5074
a) 0.51 (the seven rounds up)
b) the number has four signifcant figures. (the leading zeroes are insignifican, but the ones in the middle of other numbers are significant.
I’m not sure what your teacher is looking for, but based on the limited info in your question, that is my best guess.

If it is about approximations, I would think it stands for Significant Figures.
