How would you write a story for yearbook about the homecoming game when you lost 45-7?

Our team lost by a ton of points and I have to try to make it sound good. Anyone have any ideas

“Homecoming is a time of excitement and enthusiasm. A welcoming of the football team, back from its hundred-yard road wars. A celebration of all that is great about going to school.

“Sometimes, the best laid plans of mice and men gang aft agly, according to scottish poet Robert Burns. The team was was ready and willing, but not really able.”

Take it from there

Focus your story on the actual team and the spirit of the crowd rather than the actual game. Gloss over the details a game and shed more light on your school and your positive spirit at the game. Don’t mention the actual numbers

Focus on the positive:

Queen crowned; school spirit high

On a September night school spirit was high as the Denver Bronocs took on the Vail Eagles. The home stands were a sea of green and gold . . .

Despite the team’s loss, . . .

write something to motivate… like “even if the team lost by 38 points, the spirit of… still lives on, and will continue to influence those who seek to become…for the future of…blah blah blah”

anyway, just focus on the good bits and try not to insult the readers about the loss but instead make it so that they are encouraged to do better next time. good luck!

Write a funny understatement:

Though we lost the homecoming game, we were only (how much you lost by) points away from victory….

You don’t have to make it sound good. Just focus on a different aspect, like “we know where our weaknesses are and can fight them until the next match comes” or something in that vein.
