Be careful with an objective statement on a resume. The objective should be nonspecific enough to not limit your employment options, but be descriptive enough to describe what you can do for a company. Describe your talents that will be useful to the company and how the talents will be used to benefit the company.

The problem with objectives is that many people use them to state what the target company can do for them, not what the person can do for the company. Example of bad statement, ” I am looking for a job as an entry level clerk where I can gain experience and eventually move into management….” This implies that the prospective employee is seeking to get experience and may use the present job as a stepping stone to another job within the company. This leaves the hiring manager in a situation that he/she will be conducting the employee screen again very soon. It may also indicate that you plan to use their company to gain experience then move to another company very quickly.

An example of a good objective might be,” I am looking for a company where I can use my extensive sales skills and ability to reach monthly sales goals while maximizing profit to enhance corporate profitability……” This statement shows that your goal is to increase the corporate profitability and you have the tools to do it. The rest of the resume should then be used to back up your statement.

I usually shy away from objective statements on the resume and include the statement on a detailed and personalized cover letter. Hope this helps.

The answer to that is all dependent on what type of job you are going for. What you want from that job. Are you looking for a career?

Employers get the “warm fuzzes” if you have them get that feeling that you are going to stick around…if you add in your objective that you are looking for a career in ____ field/position and you are looking for a place with “growth potential” Those two words alone let them know that you want to stay put and grow with their company or organization. Give a little more detail or IM and maybe we can come up with a solution. Good Luck on your job search

Subtle…
The objective in a resume is what you would like to obtain through employment… somewhat of a ‘goal’.

Example:

‘I would like to establish full-time employment with the opportunity for advancement.’

That would be what your objective would be and it should be geared toward the company. If you want to work the register at a fast food company then your objective should be to effectively and efficiently operate and maintain and accurate account of food sales in a fast food environment.

Something like “Seeking a fulltime time position as an ‘office assistant’ with opportunity for growth”.
