What is the meaning of “To Kill a Mockingbird”‘s title?

I am writing a Critque for the movie To Kill a Mocking Bird and I am supposed to add the meaning of the title but all I can figure out is that the title by itself means to kill a mocking bird.

I really need help so if you have a better idea what the title could mean please answer.

Thanks.

From the dialog; It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.

Working from memory I think Attticus says something about it being OK to shoot and kill crows and another bird; but it was a sin to kill a mockingbird (bo radley)

To kill a mockingbird has a double meaning to it. The first meaning is that it comes from the bible. (I have watched the original movie with Gregory Peck a couple of weeks ago and he states that it was a sin to kill a mocking bird). This was because the mockingbird naturally sings a beautiful “song” and God stated it would be a sin to kill such a beautiful creation of his.

The second reason is that in the movie the black man accused of raping the woman was innocent, and it wouldn’t be right if he were to be tried guilty for not committing the crime.

hope this helps.

it means “its a sin to kill a mockingbird”.

The title is part of the theme of the novel. A mockingbird is a harmless creature all it does is sing beautiful music for us to listen to, it does not harm us. Therefore why should somebody kill it. This brings us to Tom Robinson who is harmless but was accused of rape. And it is a sin to kill him because he didnt do anything wrong the same as a mockingbird does nothing wrong. Hope this helps you.

First of all, a mocking bird is a harmless bird…. and killing it is considered a sin (cos its harmless)… now in the book or the movie there are two mockingbirds (harmless characters, who were mistreated)… they are Tom Robinson and Arthur Radly… Tom Robinson was innocent and he was shot… and Arthur Radly is as though he’s dead since, all he does is stay at home and never come out…

you must see the film without edits. Near the end the mentally ill neighbor saves the children from the “raped daughter s father” who is trying to harm the children. the little girl states to her father”the attorney” that she agrees with the sheriff that to try Boo for the protection of the children would bring him into the lime light and that would kill him, and that would be a sin. the girl says “it would be like killing a mocking bird”. the moral of the story is to have mercy where mercy is due.
