The Jews had developed their worship of God into a system of rules and regulations, their experience of life had been changed from a time of wonder and celebration to one of effort and drudgery. Yes, there are things which God wants us to do but whereas the Law would demand and not lift a finger to help, grace does nothing but enable, grace removes the heavy burden and replaces it with a yoke, which speaks of unity in service, working side by side with the Creator of the universe who has made all things for us to enjoy. Jesus has come that we might have life in all it’s abundance. Nothing will be added to this burden to weigh us down and neither are we to add to it.

Nothing is as peevish and pedantic as men’s judgments of one another.
