It’s great for understanding the news as part of your general education. It’s a good start for work as a military officer or in government intelligence agencies. You can teach it, but to teach it in high school you would have to also be trained in similar subjects like history and US government.

I agree with a previous answer that it could lead to political office or law school, if you’re interested in that.

Compared to other majors, it doesn’t offer much of a career except for those specific areas above. The best reason to study politcal science is to become an informed voter.
