What does it mean when it says…?

Ok. We are reading this book for CP English called things fall apart. && My Teacher didn’t explain how we were supposed to do this. She just handed us a piece of paper.

but anyways this is what it says:

There are three basic themes/motifs in Things Fall Apart: Balance of

‘Traditional masculine and feminine values’,

‘conitnual and invevitable change’,

and the

‘dynamic between the individual and society’

And im supposed to ‘trace the themes/motifs and quote the book and respond to it saying what does it mean what is the signifance purpose intent effects or suggestion about the book as a whole.

&& I have no idea How to do this.

Pleaseee Help. I just need help on the theme/motifs and what that means.

:[

Please dont say go to your teacher and stuff im going to do that tomorrow but i have to finish it tonight because she dosent accept late work.

you need to find the masculine and feminine values of the book. For example, in Jane Eyre, women were to be very conservative in roder to be marrie. Women can only become teacher while man had could go into any carrer of his desire….

the continual and inevitable changes would be things as aging or consequenses due to a choice. Let say some one that was rich started loosing all of their money as a consequence of a bad choice or gambling issues. You have to find something of the sort in your book.

Last the dynamic between the individual and society is pretty much the interaction that you find between the individual and the society that sorrounds him/her. In another words, according to what you have read, how do you think the character(s) is view?

Usually you woudl write a paper on this in a summary style that is at least 500 words…or three pages. I haven’t read that book so I can’t give you straight details about it! By the way, you need to make sure you do ask questions to your teacher. AP English is not only a college level class but more of a preparatory class that will lead you to understand college. I don’t know if you just started it this course, as you go further in it, you may have more lectures rather then a regular highschool class. Make sure you take note of things that you think may be usefull.

Okay. A motif and a theme are pretty much the same. The three motifs, or just sentences you need to find examples for, in English, are… Male and Female old-fashioned values, continuing change, and the relationship from the main character to the society or group. Use quotes from the book and give examples of each of these themes. I haven’t read the book so that’s all the help I can give. Good Luck!

I think she wants you to explain how those themes are illustrated in the book. I suggest you first show you understand the motif and then explain how it’s illustrated in the story.

For example:

1. What is the difference between traditional masculine and feminine values? (understand the motif)

2. How is this difference illustrated in the story. Give an example in from the story.

Oh yes I have, haven’t we all? Part of being human is making mistakes and saying things you don’t really mean! I have done both yes when meaning no and no when meaning yes! Everything is alright in the end and These mistakes help us learn!
