The term originated in the mid-1980s, describing a sub genre of hardcore punk. However, it has really evolved and a good explanation will require more space than there is here.

There is also “emo” fashion or style: Emo clothing is characterized by tight jeans on males and females alike, long fringe (bangs) brushed to one side of the face or over one or both eyes, dyed black, straight hair, tight t-shirts which often bear the names of rock bands (or other designed shirts), studded belts, belt buckles, canvas sneakers or skate shoes or other black shoes.

However, there is a lot of disagreement about what constitutes “emo” music and fashion.

But really its a label that silly humans

like to call others that listen to a certain type of music

or dress a certain way like punk and goth and metal

Just a another one of those labels.
