Find the slope of the line passing through the points (–5, 8) and (8, –5). How do you do this

(Y2-Y1)/(X2-X1)

-5-8/8+5. The Slope Is -1

subtract the Y coordinates : -5 – 8 = -13

then subtract the X coordinates: 8- -5=13

so you have -13/13 which is -1

You subtract the y-values (the Rise), and put it over (a fraction), the x-values subtracted (the run) (in the same order). So….

(-5 – 8) / (8 – (-5))

-13/13 = -1

The formula is (y2 – y1)/(x2 – x1)
