How much self – government did the American colonists have and what caused it to increase or decrease from the 1650s to the 1750s.

It may have been the absence of government that attracted people to the new colonies. Slavery was introduced in 1620. Lets take Button Gwinnett for example. When Mr. Gwinnett arrived he was offered land to settle on St. Catherine’s island of about 1000 acres. If he had slaves he could acquire more land. As much as he could clear off.8 men/slaves to run a saw mill and you could acquire a great deal more land. So the British colonies were big advocates of slavery because they wanted to acquire as much of the new world as Brittan could since there was fierce competition by the French and Spanish. The people came more and more. Of course you know the whole taxation without representation story. In Georgia and the rest of the colonies there were those who enjoyed Brittish Rule and those who did not. Self Government is what the did nots prefered. I hope these answers arent too dumb,.
