Two sided equations with fractions on both sides?
1.) 2 / 3 ( x – 4 ) – 1 / 5 ( x + 2 ) = 2 ( x – 3 ) + 5x
alright, so i understand distributive properties and such, but my teacher didn’t bother to explain the part about the fractions.
HELP.

(2/3)x – (8/3) – (1/5)x – (2/5) = 2x – 6 + 5x
Now you can combine like terms:
[(2/3)-(1/5)]x – [(8/3)-(2/5)] = (2+5)x – 6 or
(7/15)x – (34/15) = 7x – 6 add (34/15) to both sides to get
(7/15)x = 7x – 6 + (34/15) or
(7/15)x = 7x – 56/15 now subtract 7x from both sides to get:
(7/15)x – 7x = -56/15 or
-(98/15)x = -(56/15) multiply both sides by -(15/98) to get:
x = (56/15)(15/98) or
x = (56/98) or
x = +4/7
This is positive…heaven forgot to distribute the (-) when multiplying -(1/5) * (x+2)
I hope this helps
2/3(x – 4) – 1/5(x + 2) = 2(x – 3) + 5x
2/3x – 8/3 – 1/5x + 2/5 = 2x – 6 + 5x
7/15x – 34/15 = 7x – 6
56/15 = 98/15x
-4/7 = x
