For the direct variation y=-5 when x=3 what is the constant of variation?

And could you explain how you find out? Please? Thanks!!! =]]

well the equations is y = kx. k=constant of variation, which is what you want to find. So you take what you know (that y=-5 and x=3), and plug it into the equation:

-5 = k3

Then you solve for k, so it would be k= – 5/3.
