+1 -1 cancels out
since 3/x +2/x have the same denominators, you can add the numerators together. so your final answer is 5/x

I assume you mean 3 over [x+1] + 2over[x-1] ?
The lowest common denominator is [x+1][x-1], so
3/[x+1] + 2 /[x-1]
={3[x-1] +2[x+1]} all over [x+1][x-1],
=[3x-3+2x+2] all over [x+1][x-1]
=[5x-1]/[x+1][x-1] Hope this helps, Twiggy.
