Substitution for x any y do sum please?
4x + y = -7
2x – y = -1
not sure if my answer is right
x = -1 1/3
y= 9
Favorite Answer
These two equations are already in a great form. Just add them together …
(4x+y) + (2x-y) = (-7) + (-1)
Rearrange …
(4x+2X) + (y – y) = -8
Finally…
6x=-8
Thus
x = -4/3 (Which of course is what you got)
Now just substitute back into one of the original equations …
2(-4/3) -y = -1
Solve for y…
y = -8/3+1 = -5/3
[You can verify these answers by plugging them both into the other original equation]
-4x -4x
y = -4x – 7
2x – (-4x – 7) = -1
2x + 4x + 7 = -1
6x + 7 = -1
-7 -7
6x/6 = -8/6
x = -1 1/3
4x + y = – 7
4 (-1 1/3) + y = -7
-5 1/3 + y = -7
+5 1/3 +5 1/3
y = -1 2/3
Ur first answer was right though!!! hope this helped.
