Stuck on this math problem. Some help would be great. Thanks?
Give your result in slope-intercept form, where possible.
a. (-1, 3) and (4, -2)
b. (2, -3) and (2, 4)
Favorite Answer
slope: m = (y,final – y,initial) / (x,final – x,intial)
= ( – 2 – 3 ) / ( 4 – (-1) )
= -5 / 5
m = -1
choose one of the points to solve for b . …. (4, -1)
y = mx + b
(-2) = (-1)(4) + b ……… b = 2
answer: y = (-1) x + 2 or -x + 2
CHECK
at x=-1, does y = 3 (1st point)…
y = (-1)(-1) + 2 = 3 OK
b. slope is undefined (m = infinity),
so slope-int form not possible, but…equation is: x = 2
a) is -1
b) is undefined
You can only answer a) put it in y=mx+b form
