Squaring fractions?
Can someone expain to me why (1/4)^2 is 1/2…I would think that it would equal 1/16 bu squaring the top and bottom but my TA and professor keep telling me I’m wrong…

1/4 times 2 does = 1/2. but 1/4×1/4 DOES = 1/16

If it is one quarter squared you’re squaring the numerator and denominator of the fraction so 1^2 (over) 4^2 = 1/16 so you are correct on that one.
The only way I can possibly see them getting 1/2 is by multiplying 1/4 by 2 instead of squaring it. This would give you 2/4 which reduces to 1/2
