solve the quadratic equation:(x-2)^2=25?
Favorite Answer
You then expand the brackets
x^2 – 4x + 4 = 25
Take 25 from both sides
x^2 – 4x -21 = 0
Solve the quadratic on the left side
The answer is x = 3 or 7
Sorry i couldnt explain it all but its hard on the computer. Good luck
[x-2]^2 = 25, so,
[x-2][x-2] = 25, so,
x^2-2x-2x+4 = 25, so
x^2-4x+4 = 25, so
x^2-4x-21 = 0, Now factorise the left hand side,
[x-7][x+3] = 0, so
x-7 = 0, OR x+3 = 0, so
x = 7, OR x= -3. Hope this helps, Twiggy.
Start by taking the square root of each side of the equation. You’ll end up with: x-2=5.
You can perform any simple operation…as long as it’s performed on both sides of the equation.
Hint: There’s also a negative value that will work. I’ll leave this for you to figure out.
then subtract 4 from both sides and u get x^2 -4x=21
subtract 21 from both sides and u get x^2 -4x -21
then solve an du get (x+3)(x-7)the two answers are -3 and 7
