Science: How does a metal, and a non metal each form ions?
simple answer please.

Ions are formed by the atom giving up or receiving an electron, eg Na + Cl = Na+ + Cl-
the sodium gives up one electron and the chlorine takes that electron (this forms the compound sodium chloride – table salt)
