Aside from that, here’s my top 10.
1.) Don’t start with “my name is…” Save that until you’ve got their interest.
2.) Recognize special guests/hosts.
3.) Make eye contact; don’t stare down at your notes the whole time.
4.) Don’t apologize–ever. If you mess up, move on.
5.) Practice in front of a mirror. You’ll feel silly, but you’ll be glad you did.
6.) Vary your speaking speed, volume and pitch. Monotone voices put people to sleep.
7.) Emphasize key points with personal stories if possible.
8.) If practical, use visual aids–in moderation.
9.) Don’t panic. The more relaxed you are, the better.
10.) Don’t end with “that’s it” or it’s eqivalent. Say “thank you” instead.
You should say something on the line that rhymes with wine.
Welcome everyone, I’m glad to be here, I’ve walked around the room and noticed a few of you aren’t as happy to be here (tonight/today) as myself, so go ahead and wine, you’ll feel better. (That’s just one of my favorite sayings, I have a plaque hanging in my kitchen that says that.
Try googling “Tuscan or wine ryhmes and see if you can come up with something.
Always make people laugh, you can’t go wrong and who doesn’t just love wine?
Have fun:)
