Problem I couldn’t get? On Percents.?
The number of students at Westwood High School with a driver’s liscense is now 558. This is 24% more than last year. How many students had a driver’s liscense last year?
Favorite Answer
558 is 124% of than the number you need, so call that number x, so
558 = 124% of x, so
558/124 = 1% of x, so
100 x 558/124 = 100% of x, so
450 = x.
So 450 students had a driver`s licence last year.
Hope this helps, Twiggy.
therefore 450 students had a licence last year, add 24% (558/124*24) which is 108 and now 558 students have a licence.
DL this year = 558
Let DL last year = X
If DL last year = X
then DL this year = X+ 24%
and X + 24% = 558
also X =100%
so 124% = 558
558 divided by 124 = 1%
multiply this by 100 equals 100%
or 450
450 students had a Driver’s Licence last year.
Let x be the number of ppl who had a license last year. This year (x + 24% of x) ppl have license or 558 people.
x is the same thing as 1*x. 24% of x is the same thing as .24*x. So 1*x + .24*x = 1.24 *x
1.24*x = 558
Divide… x = 558/1.24 = 450 people
