ok so there are two 20 ft tall poles with a 30ft rope tired to both poles on the top. and its hanging from it, and the lowest part of the rope to the ground is 5 ft, how far apart are the poles?

Think about it. If the poles are 20 feet tall and the rope comes to within 5 feet of the ground, then the rope drops 15 feet from the top of each pole. 15 feet times 2 is 30 feet, which is the length of your rope.
