the ceiling of a classroom is 3.75 m above the floor. A student tosses a ball upward releasing it .5m above the floor. What is the maximum initial speed the can be given to the ball so that it does not hit the ceiling.

Alright, we know the following things:
Vf = 0 m/s
// When the ball is at the peak of its parabola, infinitely close to the ceiling.
A = -9.8 m/s/s
// Acceleration of gravity in frictionless environment.
D = 3.25 m.
This is enough to solve Newton’s squared velocity equation of
V^2 =Vi^2 + 2AD
0^2 = Vi^2 + 2(-9.8)(3.25)
Vi^2 = 2(9.8)(3.25)
Vi = rad[2(9.8)(3.25)]
Vi = ~7.981 m/s.
