on a stem and leaf plot, what is an outlier???

im totally confused on what an outlier is.

On any plot, an outlier is a data point that is way out of keeping with the other plots.

For instance, suppose you have a graph with x and y axis which the data points generally follow a straight line. But suppose there is a data point that is far off the line. That would be an outlier.

And for your info, and to increase your vocab, the word outlier is widely used by even non-technical people to indicate any info that doesn’t fit into other info. For instance, the financial commendators make casual use of the word. The word is not just jargon anymore–it has entered the layman’s vocabulary.
